History

Merry Gardeners was founded in August of 2003 to share the joy of gardening, love of healthy plants, creative gardens and the appreciation of high quality, well cared for tools.

The interest in gardening came from my childhood. My parents were avid gardeners. My mother had a thriving garden which produced many fresh vegetables for our family table. My father enjoyed experimenting with grafting of fruit trees. Due to my father's success with fruit trees, my brother and I were able to make extra money by running a fruit stand that contained many unusual varieties of fruit. My parents seemed to have a natural talent with plants. However, their gardening talent did not transfer to me.  As an adult, I had many problems getting plants to survive, mostly due to excessive watering and insisting on putting plants in the wrong locations and conditions for the plant!   It wasn't until I read many gardening books, studied plants and took master gardening classes that I became successful at growing healthy plants.

My love of tools came from my father who always purchased high quality tools. He also took the time to care for his tools, so much so that some of his tools are still in our family.

This web site is devoted to people at all levels of gardening, the person who has a few pots that they want to fill with something lovely, the elderly person or wheelchair user who would like to keep gardening, children whose parents want them to learn the joy of seeing a plant thrive and the professional who works in making this planet a more beautiful and healthy place due to his/her creative efforts.
